New pic from Phoenix-soundcheck of Britney with Jayden on the stage

(WATCH) The Femme Fatale Tour in Phoenix

"I Wanna Go" video director talk to New York Post

PopWrap: How did you team up with Britney?

Chris Marrs Piliero: She hit me up and asked me to put together a concept for the song. Simple as that. Having been a fan for a while, I was stoked to get the call since I’ve always thought she was one of the cooler pop artists.

PW: Where did the idea for this video come from?

Chris: The song is really fun, really upbeat with lots of sexual undertones — but the key lyric for me was “be a little inappropriate.” That stood out but I didn’t want to make a video that was all about sexual inappropriateness – that wasn’t the vibe that either of us wanted. We were on the same page about exploring fun ways for her to be inappropriate. She’s Britney Spears – how would you react if you asked for an autograph and she grabbed your ass?!?

PW: Were you worried that this might feel like “ugh, another paparazzi blasting video?

Chris: No. I’ve seen all of her videos and really wanted to pull what I loved about Britney from those, but give it something fresh. One thing that stood out to me was all her references to the paparazzi were always more of a statement than an action. She’d never embraced the opportunity to lash out, fight back. I thought this was the perfect chance to be tongue in cheek but also get her to say “f*** off!”

PW: Literally! Was there any pushback from her or her camp about the F-bombs?

Chris: I wrote the beginning not knowing if she’d be down to do it, but I was stoked at how game she was. Being a fan, I’ve seen her on “How I Met Your Mother” and “Saturday Night Live” – I feel like no video has really taken advantage of her comedic timing. Even when her videos have a narrative, they never embraced that aspect of her. She never had a music video where she could show her acting chops and have fun with comedy while being super badass. That was my goal from day one: I wanted her to be funny, badass and super cool.

PW: There have been lots of rumors about how Britney is just being propped up by her team and pointed at the stage. As someone who has worked with her, how much truth is there to that?

Chris: Let me tell you, all of that is bulls***. Every artist has management, that’s their job. It’s what they’re paid for. I work with the artist. Your question goes along perfectly with the whole concept of the video and that press conference – it’s a ridiculous, exaggerated rumor about her life and career. I met with her, talked with her, went over the concept with her. It was extremely collaborative. She suggested alternatives and tweaked other things. As much as the management is there, this was a concept that Britney really dug. She was a big part of the decision-making process.

PW: Lastly, the video features a marquee for “Crossroads 2: Cross Harder.” I love that, where did it come from?

Chris: I needed a movie title for the marquee and thought that would be perfect. It’s a fun Easter egg for fans. Plus, “Die Hard 2: Die Harder” is the most ridiculously awesome way to title a sequel. It just felt like the right thing to do. When Britney saw it, she loved it.

When the Music Comes Up and the Sun Goes Down

I am shocked to see that I never gave Femme Fatale a full review! With her tour off to a phenominal start, and her video for her 3rd single releasing today, I feel it's a perfect time to discuss just what "Femme Fatale" brings to the fans and the magic you feel while listening to it. This is Britney's 7th studio album. Her confidence is back in full swing and she is owning it. One thing that I want to say about this album is that I am soo happy and proud of Ms. Spears. Being a true Britney fan since '97 I can tell you that she looks happy again and that is what is most important.

FEMME FATALE
1. Till The Word Ends
2. Hold It Against Me
3. Inside Out
4. I Wanna Go
5. How I Roll
6. (Drop Dead) Beautiful
7. Seal It With A Kiss
8. Big Fat Bass
9. Trouble For Me
10. Trip To Your Heart
11. Gasoline
12. Criminal

Out of these 12 tracks there is not a single one that I do not like. They all have wondrful beats and energy. Her 1st single from the album was "Hold it Against Me", followed by "Till the World Ends", followed by "I Wanna Go." With that lets take a trip back to one of the best albums I believe ever made in general and for Britney; "Blackout". Although "Blackout" didn't get much publicity, a tour, or much of anything really due to Britney's rough time she was going through, you can ask any Britney fan what their favorite album was you will most likely hear Blackout by MANY. So take the Blackout and add a little old school Britney sounds, mix, and you have Femme Fatale.

This is an album that you pop in and you do not have to skip any tracks. Every track is beautifully done and the layout of the album flows greatly. Must Listens include: Till The World Ends(no words can describe how amazing this track is. It also has a remix version feat. Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha, who actually co wrote the track), Big Fat Bass feat. will i am, Hold it Against Me, Inside Out, I wanna Go, Trouble for Me, Gasoline.........okay I'm practically listing the enire album, thats how kick ass it is! I give it a 5 star rating. And if we want to compare, well here are all my personal rating on Britney's 7 albums.

1. .....Baby One More Time-5 Stars. Brilliant 1st album. Skyrocketed her immediatly to our Pop Princess.
2. Oops...I Did it Aagain-3 Stars.
3. Britney-3.5 Stars. Contains my favorite Britney Spears song ever made: Slave 4 U.
4. In the Zone-5 Stars. My personal favorite album so far in her career.
5. Blackout-5 Stars. Exceptional. My 2nd favorite album so far in her career.
6. Circus-2.5 Stars. If U Seek Amy(one of my top 5 Britney songs) is on it but there are many tracks you can skip.
7. Femme Fatale-5 Stars. My 3rd personal favorite album so fr in her career. Outstanding Album.

If you haven't already, which I know most of you have, go pick up a copy of Femme Fatale or downdoad from iTunes and see what the big fuss is that everyone is making. Also make sure you hit up the Femme Fatale Tour in a city near you. Britney Spears is now considered Legendary(wikipedia) and the Queen of Pop. Both are true.

adam leber tweet to the hollywood reporter over the lies they told about The Femme Fatale Tour

Most importantly, the only reviews that matter are already in.The fans overwhelmingly LOVE the show and they tend to get their facts straight

FYI Jim, our stage is not SUPPOSED to resemble anything other than a stage. Which it is. Sharp question....

Other than @jimthecritic (50 something) in San Jose who was trying to figure out if our stage resembled a bird or a plane.

Good thing your publication is in the minority of all the press covering the show who seems to love it.

5 inaccuracies in an 8 paragraph review is pretty shocking. Were you even in attendance?

Don't let me be the last to know is the ONLY song performed on a swing.

She isnt wearing a white trench during "piece of me". That's "3".

And her "best moment ironically" as you stated is IRONICALLY reported as the wrong song.

It's about 10 seconds of a 3 minute song. I counted. She dances for the entire song otherwise. How did you miss this?

She is seated for a moment during How I Roll when the car drives down the stage. (Cont.)

She isn't on a swing during Big Fat Bass

Brit is not seated when she takes the stage For Hold It Against Me. She's standing.

Here is a list of ALL the inacuracies you reported in your "review". Please take this list, go back, and do your homework:

when a publication of your stature reviews our show and has roughly 75% of their FACTS wrong.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion of our show but it is incredibly disappointing (cont.)

THIS IS THE ARTICLE
The singer, who performed in Los Angeles Monday, is called "entertaining" and "a mess pretty much from start to finish."

Britney Spears kicked off her Femme Fatale tour this week. She played her 90-minute set in Los Angeles' Staples Center Monday night. Here's what the critics are saying about the pop singer's latest world tour.

"Even with bells, whistles, fireworks and scores of dancers, a pop star's evolution is not always a pretty picture," writes The Hollywood Reporter's Shirley Halperin, who notes the Britney Spears of 2011 is "one who’s seated for nearly half of her 90-minute set, who doesn’t quite have that spring in her dance step anymore and who requires a constant barrage of visual distractions while she mostly lip-synchs along to her hits."

Still, Spears' show is "entertaining," Haperin makes sure to note. "With theatrics that bring to life a sexy assassin subplot, elaborate stage sets (cages, a pink motorcycle, a giant dragon boat) and a slew of dancers who effortlessly camouflage Spears’ less energetic numbers (and Spears had her share on Monday at L.A.’s Staples Center, though not quite on the level of her GMA performance from March), Femme Fatale features bells and whistles out the yin-yang in a sort of sugary rush that’s not unlike going to Disneyland -- which is, of course, highly appropriate considering Spears got her first taste of fame on the Mickey Mouse Club."

The San Jose Mercury News' Jim Harrington called Spears' Saturday night show there a "shockingly poor outing from one of pop music's biggest stars."

"The current Femme Fatale Tour, in support of the chart-topping record of the same name, is a mess pretty much from start to finish. The theatrics are awkward and confusing, the dance routines are numbingly bland and old-hat, the song selection is weak and misguided, and Britney's star power, so blinding on tours past, is remarkably dim," he writes.

"What makes this turn of events so depressing is that Femme Fatale directly follows 2009's The Circus Starring Britney Spears, a comeback tour that -- while not without minor problems -- served notice that the long-troubled star was still capable of being a first-rate entertainer," he continues.

Rolling Stone magazine, however, said of Spears' show in Sacremento last Thursday, "The night belonged to Britney: She managed to prove that she's still progressing as a showgirl... Not only that, she's doing it better than even die hard defenders would've predicted. At 29, the pop star whose career seemed in danger of ending just a couple years ago has shown that she's back - hopefully this time to stay."

MTV News' Kelley L. Carter says that Spears "stuck to script" at her Staples Center show.

"The Spears that captivated the audience at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles on Monday night was the old, fun-loving, free-wheeling Spears — with a sexy, showgirl twist. There wasn't much pretense, though those glamazon outfits blinded in the best way possible. Instead, there was just good dance music," she wrote.

"There were times throughout the night when it was obvious that Spears was lip-synching, but no one in the audience seemed to mind one bit. They were there to be served a shot of Spears straight-up. And they got what they came for," she wrote.
