Producer/Songwriter Nicole Morier Writing For Britney Again

Lead singer and main writer of the indie electro phenomenon "Electrocute" knows pop music from all angles.

Not too long ago Nicole Morier, a self made producer/songwriter from Los Angeles teamed up alongside Bloodshy & Avant and Greg Kurstin for Britney Spears’ anticipated release "Circus". Morrier employed some of the most tolerable Britney tracks from the last decade and today is working with some of the most-likely-to-succeed musicians of today : Wynter Gordon, Pixie Lott and even the bratty/poppy internet star Sky Ferreira. Now back from a European tour with Charlotte Gainsbourg, Nicole and I chatted about the unreleased Britney sessions, the 90’s and Missy Elliot.
Alex Kazemi : Britney Spears' "Circus" record could be considered as your "love letter" to the music industry. When did you guys first meet and how did you start working on that album?
Nicole Morier : Britney had cut a song of mine, "Heaven on Earth", for her previous album so when it came time for her to start working on the next one, she asked if I’d come in and try writing some songs together with her. Don’t know about a love letter to the music industry though ; I didn’t really think of it that way. If I write a love letter to the music "industry" it might have a few 4 letter words in it. Ha ha !
Kazemi : Haha ! "Circus" has been a huge success on the pop music charts. During Britney's sessions were there any songs that you wish were out right now ? What was your eye of inspiration for those particular tracks you worked on ?
Nicole : There’s a couple songs we started that were great ideas but just incomplete. Maybe we’ll hear them with fresh ears someday and put them out, but I usually just like to start anew. For the tracks we did release the inspiration was doing something different than she had done before. The result was a "60’s surf go-go ode to a sexy lover and a bombastic electro-rock song about flying head-over-heels in to the mystical abyss of love".
Kazemi : I have to ask. Every pop music blog is speculating that you have been working with her again on the seventh album. Can you give us any insight on some of the tracks you did for her ? Reading this might give some people heart-attacks ; everything about that album is so secret and locked up !
Nicole : I don’t want to give anyone a heart attack ; maybe just high blood pressure ! I’m writing songs at this moment and I heard one that she recorded that someone else wrote that sounded amazing. I'm excited to see what she will come up with this time. She always impresses me by how innovative and current she sounds. I can’t promise you’ll see my name on the credits yet, I have to write something worthy first !
Kazemi : A MSTRKRFT vs. Britney track would be in insane. Do you have a favorite song you’ve done so far?
Nicole : I really love "Heaven On Earth", because it’s a very special song for me. Not only was it my first cut and transformed my whole life, but I wrote it from a rather dark place and it was the first time I really wrote something so unmasked and honest. Britney sounds so amazing and Freescha did such a cool production as well.
Kazemi : Do you feel more pressure not to fuck up a song when it’s for Britney, rather than people like Sky who are brand new to the industry and just using your songs as a starting point ?
Nicole : Both are really fun. With an established artist the challenge is to come up with a new angle for them without changing who they are. With a new artist you have to help them distinguish themselves from others and find out what feels the most sincere and help set the stage. I actually started working with Sky long before she had a record deal and I have to admit it was nice when we didn’t have people worrying about record sales and we could just create. Things do become a little different when working with someone who’s got 200 paparazzi chasing them and you're in an expensive studio and there’s a lot of pressure for everyone. You don't want to waste their time or yours, but I work well under pressure. I enjoy it and I never really think of fucking up a song really, it's not possible. Sometimes they just don’t work and you either have to go back to the drawing board or start fresh and sometimes the most fucked up songs are the best.
Kazemi : "Heaven On Earth" was a damn good fuck-up then ! Growing up what kind of music did you listen too ? Does that reflect on the inspiration you get while writing songs today ?
Nicole : I grew up in the 90’s and I liked some of the rock stuff like Nirvana and Jane's Addiction but mostly I’d listen to the oldies station or classic rock. We were in the mountains in New Mexico so it was hard for me to discover anything new and cool. I really like the 80's stuff like Cyndi Lauper and Blondie and the Bangles. I’m sure it all had a big effect on me. Everything effects you as a writer. Probably the biggest influence on me was my dad. He was a musician and songwriter as well (Johnny Morier), and had penned a few minor hits for bands like the Cowsills and Spanky and our Gang. He was part of the 60's folk scene and had been friends and sung with people like Karen Dalton and Joan Baez. He had a very eclectic music taste ; we’d listen to everything from Pucinni to Merle Haggard to The Beastie Boys and enjoy it all. That really opened my world to a variety of styles and taste.
Kazemi : Being your own producer in the studio and your own songwriter, how do you figure out the balance of what a song is suppose to sound like and what the lyrics are supposed to mean to the listener ?
Nicole : I come at music from all angles. A lot of producers these days are the songwriter too. Sometimes I only write the melody and lyric, other days I’ll program a beat and maybe another producer will come up with a song title or help me with melodies. It’s pretty easy to fit the song to a sound or the chords but I really like when you can kind of twist it. A song like "Boys Don’t Cry" from the Cure where there’s danceable beat but melancholic lyrics. I love how Britney can twist a dark lyric like "Womanizer" into an upbeat club anthem.

Katy Perry Mentions "...Baby One More Time" + Katy Talks Brit's Teeth

In a recent interview with OkMagazine, Katy Perry mentioned Britney's ...Baby One More Time as one of her favorite album :

OkMagazine : Which albums you never stop listening ?
Katy Perry : I was a fan of buying original discs, I bought one a week, I have so many CDs at home and all the incredible music, I'm a fan of The Beatles I have all their collection. And some albums I never stop listening are for example Let Go by Avril Lavigne and ...Baby One More Time by Britney which are brilliant albums like the dreams of teenagers, Britney with her schoolgirl skirt, that time was fascinating. Sometimes I had to see the video in secret because my parents seem it strange and too sexy.

Britney's Dinner Date with Jason Trawick - and His Parents!

They've been romantically linked since last summer, and Saturday Britney Spears and beau Jason Trawick had special guests join them at dinner : his parents.

Before heading to L.A.'s Pantages Theatre for a show, the pop star and her former agent, had a double dinner date with Trawick's mother and father at the Grafton on Sunset Hotel's Olive Kitchen + Bar.
They dined from about 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on meatballs and margarita pizza, and an onlooker at the restaurant says Spears enjoyed the quality time with his folks.
"She seemed to fit in very well with his family", the source tells People.Com. "She seemed very comfortable. She was very warm to them".
As for Spears and Trawick, who have already fended off engagement rumors, they appeared to be a happy couple, keeping it romantic but low-key.
"Britney and Jason were really affectionate", the source says, "but at the same time very respectful."

He is in There and You're on the Outside

Tonight I ran to the mall to do a return(ohh my gosh, shut up, did I really go shopping again?) Why yes I did thank you and yes I know I have a serious addiction here but it's wedding season and that requires extra time to be dedicated to my almost already booked days of shopping. Moving on; So instead of returning I just found something else that was freaking great to add to one of my girlfriends gifts and after that I 'accidentally' took a wrong turn and ended up in BCBG Max Azria where I continued to say, "ohh that's perfect! yes, I'll take that as well." Thankfully I got my butt back to Nordstrom where the clock struck 9 and my Vera Wang Lavender 'Millie' Flat flew off and I was out the door with 1 shoe and 3 bags with tissue overflowing. I think the mall or say the fairy tale "ball" has had enough of me. But don't worry I had other plans.

I went to a magical place where the closing time isn't until 10pm. A place I like to call shop, eat pizza hut, and drink your Frappachino as you go........Target! Since no designers are running lines right now I immediately skipped over to skincare. Now Since I was running late tonight, I was unable to grab my Keihl's Cucumber toner and Avocado Eye Cream. I just didn't know what to do so I did what any other smart chica would do. I went through every single toner I could find. I'm on a very strict acne regimen with my dermatologist so I didn't want to mess up his flow but my skin is sooo dry and disgustingly broken out from stress, I really needed an extra product. After seeing that EVERYTHING contained salicylic acid(which is an absolute NO for me), I finally ran into a great toner called Boots Expert Anti-Blemish Toner and it was just perfect and my skin feels great! I also decided that although I may have been a disastrous, messed up, caretaker(to my dad), skinny, with 6 inch roots; That was no reason to not ever put make-up back on. So I also grabbed some make up remover from Sonia Kashuk which I didn't think anything great of until I got home and googled it and it's won best make up remover for years. I'm pumped how. I'm putting all the goods of these lovely lids and lashes tomorrow! Okay and that's all about Target because I just got really bored about it all the sudden. I will say this though; Target is amazing. I would probably say like 20% of my wardrobe right now is from there. I have a lot of the Zac Posen, Rodarte, Luella, Proenza Schouler, and many more of the great lines that were created for Target by some of my favorite designers. (the fabric is nothing like the real and some of it does sometimes look cheap but believe me if you look you will find a shining star piece for your collection.)

That was an intro leading into some pieces from here and there that I would like to share with you from my lovely purchases this summer. Yes, I might have not been in the right state of mind but when I'm not in the right state of mind is when I do my best shopping. There are 6 places you could have caught me June-present.....the hospital, the rehabilitation center, at home helping my mother with everything we needed to do for my dad once he got home(still doing that), therapy, visiting my fellow crazy hot bitch Maggie, and at every shopping site you can think of in Pittsburgh, PA. If I wasn't there I was making sleeping concoctions that didn't work and writing songs and poems about how fucked up insomnia is, in one of my thousand notebooks I have thrown around the house. Yep, that was it! I just decided we'll go ahead and make this a two piece article because it's already quite long and I have a lot of photos for the next section.

Love is Evol, Spell it Backwards, I'll Show Ya

Well here I am. Been through a lot these past few months but I'm back and I'm trying to be stronger than ever. Actually, fuck that, I will be stronger than ever. I am sorry for my absence. I have no excuses besides I chose to walk a dark path when I could have used my many skills I have learned to not take that road. But please except that I am only human, just like you, and make a lot of mistakes. Recovered and full of joy; Let's wipe the spiderwebs off and bring this motherfucker back to life!

I left off over a month ago on the discussion of Eminem. After the 3 or 4 pieces I wrote about the extraordinarily talented, emotionally open, lyrical genius; All we have remaining is the actual review of the masterpiece album, Recovery. Short and sweet, here we go:

Recovery is an album that is an open book. You read it how you want, but if you have ever or are-addicted, depressed, emotional drawn from the world, weak, lost, experiencing soberness after a long time, or beginning your life long recovery or have been in recovery for over 40 years.......than you may read it quite differently. In two words I can sum up the album as Ispirationally Beautiful. It speaks in true form, straight Marshall's heart to yours, what a lot of people can't and no matter how hard they try really will never understand about recovery and all that comes along with it. I strongly recommend this Album. I have not been able to put it down since it's debut and it doesn't look like I'll be putting it down anytime soon. This album, if you've been there or even if you're just a fan, will take you through the pain and the joy of Eminem's journey. He put it ALL out there. He has earned such respect as not only an artist, but also as an individual. If more people would open up and tell it real, the world might be a tad different. And I do hope you know, especially for my new readers, this is why I started this blog almost 1 year ago. To be open about things most keep locked up inside. You really wanna know where I've been for the past 3 months? Keep reading over the next month.

Is anybody out there, It feels like I'm talking to myself
No one seems to know my struggle, and everything I come from
Can anybody hear me yeah, I guess I keep talking to myself
Feels like I'm going insane, am I the one who's crazy
-talking 2 myself

My friends can’t understand this new me
I feel like I’m losing control of myself,
I sincerely apologize if all that I sound like, is I’m complaining,
But life keeps on complicating, an’ I’m debating,
On leaving this world, I try and hide it,
But I can’t, why do I act like I’m all high and mighty,
When inside, I’m dying, I am finally realizing I need help.
I can’t do it by myself, too weak -Going Through Changes

Around with the idea, of ending the shit right here.
I’m hatin’ my reflection, I walk around the house tryin’ to fight mirrors -Going Through Changes

Yeah, my life a bitch, but you know nothing bout her
Been to hell and back, I can show you vouchers -No Love (feat. Lil Wayne)

I’m alive again
More alive than I have been in my whole entire life
I can see these people’s ears perk up as I begin
To spaz with the pen, I’m a little bit sicker than most -No Love

Where was you when I fell and needed help up? You get no love -No Love

Matter of fact it was just the other night, had another dream about you
You told me to get up, I got up, I spread my wings and I flew
You gave me a reason to fight, I was on my way to see you
Lord I’m so thankful, please don’t think I don’t feel grateful, I do
Just grant me the strength that I need, for one more day to get through
-You're Never Over

Those are just a few fighting quotes I like but truthfully I just wanted to quote the whole album. My absolute favorite tracks on this album with the sickest rhythms I believe are (I tried to pick just one.....just couldn't)

-Almost Famous
-No Love
-Cold Wind Blows
-Space Bound
-Love the Way You Lie
-Seduction

Look out for the video for 'Love the Way You Lie' coming out soon which was shot just last week. Also the lyrics on this album are SICKENINGLY genius so listen listen listen and listen again. This is a whole new thing he's doing too using love, chills, butterflies, in his pieces. It's cool, really cool. Please let me know what your favorite tracks are and I WILL talk to you all soon cause........'I'm Back'!

Sky Ferreira Talks Britney

Speaking of Brit Brit, you tweeted that you wanted to cover her relatively unknown song, "Cinderella" -- true? Do you feel like Cinderella?

I wanted to, but I haven't! I know every Britney song. My favorite concert was the "Dream Within a Dream" tour.

Were you a Britney, Christina, Jessica, or, uh, Mandy Moore fan?
All of the above. My favorite songs from that period: Britney, "Born To Make You Happy"; Christina, "What A Girl Wants"; Jessica, "I Wanna Love You Forever"; and Mandy, "Candy".
Name one lyric that would describe the life of Sky Ferreira.
"I'm Miss American dream since I was 17." -- B.Spears "Piece of Me". TOTALLY JOKING

Hairstylist Ken Paves on Britney's Hair

Talk about a bad hair day ! Britney Spears was snapped shopping in Sherman Oaks, California, Wednesday with a messy, extension baring look that set the internet abuzz with fans speculating about exactly what was happening to her scalp. Was she going bald ? Were her extensions done incorrectly ? We checked in with hairstylist-to-the stars Ken Paves - who has his own line of extensions that he uses on clients like Eva Longoria Parker and Jessica Simpson - to learn the truth. "It’s not that big of a deal actually, we have all seen this before. A case of bed head, who hasn’t had it ?", Paves tells People. "The truth is that this is exactly how these extensions are applied, however we are not supposed to see them, that’s all. There are thousands and thousands of women walking around whose hair looks just like that 'underneath'. The remedy is simply to cover it up. It’s not a case of bad extensions, just a bad hair day !" His recommendation ? "I am more concerned with the friend walking behind her who didn’t tell her right away ! Ladies, support your sisters and stay on weave patrol, your day may come too ! Help a sister out !"

Wynter Gordon : Britney is a 'real woman'

David Guetta’s latest muse Wynter Gordon is taking the under ground pop scene by storm with her recent single "Dirty Talk" (produced by Guetta himself and written by Nicole Morier). The song has already took the number one spot on the Bilboard dance charts ! I can see why, its polished electronic beat and S&M inspired lyrics screams "Summer 2010 dance anthem"…

Now Lets look at Wynter’s takes on "Lady GaGa vs Britney", Producers and Gummy Worms?
Alex Kazemi : Simply, Lady GaGa or Britney?
Wynter Gordon : I love them both. I love Lady Gaga because I never know what to expect and she refuses to know boundaries. I love Britney because she is a real woman and she is unashamed.
Kazemi : I would choose Britney Spears over Lady Gaga any day….I know their has been so much speculation of Britney working with him, which would be amazing !

Marc Jacobs Unwinds by Hearing Britney Spears

In the InStyle interview, designer Marc Jacobs reveals what beats he would choose for fist-pumping at his local hotspot. "As for music, I know everyone associates me with edgy rock, but there are times when I just want to hear Britney Spears singing 'Womanizer, Womanizer...' over and over. I know, I know, it's Britney! But I told you. I love imperfection."

Mel Gibson finds unlikely ally in Britney

Mel Gibson has an unlikely ally during his custody battle with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva: Britney Spears.

Spears and Gibson are reportedly in frequent communication, according to a friend of the pop star, who spoke to In Touch Weekly. "Mel has been talking to her a lot, they speak on the phone", said the source.
Although a Spears-Gibson connection seems to be out of left field, remember that the two vacationed together in Costa Rica in May 2008, and Gibson and his then-wife, Robyn, also reached out to Spears after her hospitalization in February of the same year.
"Mel was one of the only people who reached out to help Britney when she was at her lowest point, and she believes that demonstrates what a loving and wonderful man he is", said the source. "She wants people to give him a second chance - just like he gave her one when everyone else turned away."

Britney Spears Child Abuse Case Officially Closed

The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services has officially dropped its child abuse investigation against Britney Spears, a source tells RadarOnline.com.

Earlier this year, a former Spears bodyguard reported the singer beat her two sons, Sean Preston, 4, and Jayden James, 3. The former bodyguard, Fernando Flores, specifically accused Spears of beating her sons with a belt he'd been wearing. Social workers immediately went to visit Spears home to check the validity of the claim.
The department found there was "absolutely no truth to the accusations," a Spears' family insider told RadarOnline.com.
The source continued, "Sean and Jayden's pediatricians submitted documentation that the boys were healthy, and that they have never seen any signs of abuse. The case was officially closed after the department received that information from the boys' doctor."
The source concluded by saying the claim was, "absolutely outlandish and absurd. Britney would never lay a hand on either one of her sons, she loves them so much."

Miley Cyrus Takes Britney Comparison as a Compliment

When Miley Cyrus gets compared to the Britster, she says she has a choice on how to take it.
"I get that the time", she told reporters at a Hannah Montana press junket on the comparison.
So does she think people are telling her she’s about to go out and eat every bag of Cheetos she can lay hands on, or rule the charts?
"I try to look at everything in my life as positive. So I can either look at it and say it’s negative, and look at the things she’s done wrong, and say, 'How can someone compare me to her ?' " Miley explained.
"Or, I could be the positive person and look at all the amazing history that she’s made, and the things that she’s accomplished, and I’ll take it as a compliment."
It’s not surprising that smiley Miley decides to see the glass as half full in this situation, reiterating, "I choose to take it as a compliment."

Miley Cyrus will not be shaved hair like Britney Spears

During the promotion of Forever Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus was interviewed on the program Good Evening with Guy Pines. The pronunciation of the name of the driver recalls a certain word in English. So when Miley is to be interviewed by the program begins to laugh. It then tells the press that his agent is laughing with her and says, "Sorry, he's my press office, is very professional."

Clarifying the misunderstanding of the program name, Miley Cyrus talks about the end of filming Hannah Montana: "Usually at the end of the film is packed around and say, 'OK, until next season." But not this time well and is very strange. " It also discusses comparisons with Britney Spears. The reporter asked not to shave his hair as he had done some time ago Britney Spears: "Do not worry, I will not. You must protect your mind. Producer Alex Da Kid : "I am currently in the studio with Britney"

The two huge American chart hits tangling for the top spot this weekend share something in common - they were written and produced by a little-known Brit.

Young Londoner Alex Da Kid has become the go-to guy for some of America's biggest stars.
Both Eminem and B.O.B have worked with him in recent months and their tracks Love The Way You Lie and Airplanes are slugging it out for the No1 slot.
The 26-year-old, real name Alexander Grant, explained the secret of his success: "I'm in the studio every day. And when I'm there I make sure I speak to everyone I meet, from the top to the bottom - that's how I learn about the industry."
"That's how I met Eminem's manager. He came to the studio, I played him a few of my tracks and things spiralled from there."
He has also written for Diddy, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend and Mary J Blige - but his next project could be the most exciting of all.
He added: "I am always working. I am currently in the studio with a number of other artists, including Britney Spears, and I'm really excited at what the future holds. My aim is to become a global writer."

Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3 has sold 1,785,000 copies, up nicely from his 2007 release American Gangster, which has sold 1,154,000. Britney Spears' Circus has sold 1,659,000, also up nicely from her 2007 release Blackout, which has sold 985,000.
